Description
"Giant Goddess Mago carried mud her skirt and created mountains and islands.
Her urine and excrement formed hills and rivers. [...] She was so strong that when she urinated with her legs straddled on Mr. Nogo and Mt. Bulguk, the spray of urine cracked a huge rock on Munhakjae Pass."
Inspired by the goddess Mago in Korean traditional creation mythology, this mixed media print incorporates shots of New York City, U.S., New Jersey, U.S., and Changbaek, North Korea through Google's satellite view data. It bridges between these two bodies of land that was once a site of colonial conquest, and now meaningful to me and my family. By superimposing a fabric print of a fleshy female body urinating over the land, this work is a reclamation of ownership over exploited land as well as a cathartic release from the colonized female body.
